Off-grid (Is it worth it?)

While living off-grid is challenging, we have been off-grid with the farm now for 2 years and semi off-grid for a year now, and I love it. I love to disconnect for a while, the mind needs a break. People ask me "how do you live without TV?" It's simple you just do. I have not watched TV in over 7 years. No cable, don't need it. The news can drive you to die an early death with stress.
When you work all day from sunup to sundown you want to sleep when it turns dark. You're ready for a shower and turn down your bed and relax with a book, scriptures or journal and then sleep. You don't want a TV on, or a radio. Sometimes, you can hear the whisper of the pines, or the rain dance across the tin roof and that is enough. With ten acres you never stop and I joke all the time I am ready for more. I was at a gas station near the farm and an old farmer was talking to me.

He said "I started with ten acres and now I have 250 acres. Good luck!"

He laughed and walked away with a big smile.

Babe, watch out I am going for 50 more acres...... HA HA!!!!!

Happy life, happy soul. Do things that benefit your mind, change your habits that will change your life.
Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. "It's not all about what you do, but why you do it."

Luke 12:48

But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

I have lived in the city for more than 30 years, traffic can get to you. Your health can go downhill in many ways. Just the air you breathe in the city is unacceptable, the traffic, the rude people can cause mental strain on your body and mind. One person cuts you off on the highway than your raging the rest of the day. It's like a chain reaction just inviting negative energy in.

In a one-horse town, the most you have to worry about is a tractor pulling hay with three cars behind it, now that's the traffic I can deal with. I had to adjust to not having a big supermarket around the block. I have to dry clothes on a clothesline to air dry. I have to walk outside to the bathroom and shower outside in a beautiful outdoor shower my hubby made.

Living off-grid you can find ten things you hate about it, and ten things you love about it.
You can nick pick about it all day or just embrace it. It is to each their own that is for sure. It is a balance, I had to learn from going from city to farm a few days out of each week until we live their full time. I am more relaxed, happier, and sleep better.

Hot water is not a thing off-grid unless the sun heated the water, but after a day of work, you really don't need one. Coldwater from the springs is so refreshing and great on the skin. We have to feed our skin and take care of it just like we do the inside of our bodies.

So much to learn about off-grid living, everyone does it their way, I don't think there is a wrong or right way.

Creating a life where you are no longer dependent on the electrical grid means you produce your own power, collect or pump your own water and often grow your own food. Which we have a well on our farm. We have a septic tank, and yes, I would love an outhouse y'all.....
It takes commitment to live off-grid just knowing it gets dark real quick. Stays in the back of your mind all day. We don't have a house yet on our farm maybe in a few years. So for us, it is roughing it most days, but I love it.

Things to think about it since living off-grid is "trendy", Banks are NOT quick to lend for off-grid homes. Some states will NOT allow off-grid living and it impossible to make an off-grid home.
Some states don't allow you to collect rainwater in a barrel. Do your research.

The truth is that due to government regulation, it is becoming more and more difficult to live off the grid. So while the answer is “no, it’s not completely illegal to live off the grid“, it is becoming increasingly difficult and parts of it can be illegal in certain areas. We choose to live off the grid also we strive to be self-sufficient. Not quite there but we will be soon, we hope to become more and more self-sufficient.

We’d rather learn the skills to develop our homestead on our own, learning self-sustainability along the way.  Is it worth leaving the city and going off-grid? Yes! 100 times yes!

If you have any question please sound off below, I will do my best to answer them. We're working on a youtube soon to share our dream farm we are building.

Thanks for stopping by until next time life is short, make it sweet,
